What does it mean to know?
In this lesson we discussed and questioned multiple statements which put into perspective the way we get our information from and how we know these things. Using the Area of knowledge and Ways of knowledge I answered some questions which included how some of the statements describe different processes of knowing. "God loves me" fits in the category of ethics and faith as you have faith that god loves everyone whether good or bad, and they can be pardoned of their sins. This is totally different from a statement like 2+2=4, this fits into mathematics and reason. It is very logical and a self taught knowledge that can be proven with math and calculated. So there are multiple processes of knowing in which one can use many at the same time depending on the situation or the person you are talking to.
Personal VS Shared knowledge
Personal and shared knowledge can be described as the knowledge "I know" and what "we know".
Some shared knowledge examples would mean things we (as students in Raha) have learned throughout these years, such as what has happened in some parts of history and we might also know some basic science. We know that WW2 started in 1914 and included The Allies and The Central powers, we also know that mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell, this was all taught to us and we all (maybe) believe this is true or at least until proven wrong.
One big example of shared knowledge which is very influencing around the world (according to http://theoryofknowledgestudent.com) is Religion, like Catholicism which over 1.2 billion people follow worldwide.
However personal knowledge differentiates to this as you are basically describing what distinctive knowledge you know that many others could or just do not know, or just things that you have witnessed yourself therefore being able to prove these things. One of many examples that one can list down would be "I know how to swim".

What do we know for certain and how do we know it?
There are different ways in which one can know things for certain and ways in which one can prove such statement.
Ways of knowing: Reason, language, emotion, imagination, perception, faith, memory and intuition.
Areas of knowledge: Mathematics, arts, natural sciences, human sciences, ethics and history.
Some examples that fit this would be that, I know my friend plays football because I have reason to know that he does. This would fit one of the ways of knowing. I know that the square of the hypotenuse of a right triangle is equal to the sum of the squares of the two other sides, I know this due to it being proven my mathematics. This fits as one of the areas of knowledge.
The problem that is encountered here, is, how credible are the sources in which/who we get and learn all our information from? the ones that cant just be proven mathematically or because you have experienced it yourself. T.O.K would be the subject to analyze more in depth into discussions like these and really dig into the way we know everything that we have learned. One example i personally used to think it was true when i was a kid, was that if you don't go to sleep before midnight then a ghost will come into your room, but after many late night binge watching series or doing school work, i can confirm it is false.. or at least for now.
